Parking Issues Task Force - Neighborhood Parking Update
On the 6th of August, the City Council voted to direct staff to assess a permit parking program for College Terrace. What does this mean? First, it doesn't mean that permit parking is a definite thing, or that it will happen soon. Rather, the city will first be organizing a couple of outreach meetings in the neighborhood to investigate possible solutions. There will be lots of opportunities to discuss the issue and find a good plan to solve the problem for folks who find they cannot park near their homes because of non-resident cars. We haven't solved the problem yet, but at least we've gotten to first base. One question many people have is where the funding for this comes from. The problem was first raised in the late '90s when Stanford was requesting the right for lots more development in a revised General Use Permit. As one of the conditions for the county to approve this GUP, Stanford had to give the City $100,000 specifically for a permit parking program for College Terrace. This money has been sitting in the City coffers for years. It cannot be used for any other purpose and now some of it will be used to develop the plan. How can you get involved? Everyone agrees your input is the key to any successful program! If you are interested in getting involved, or have questions or concerns, please send an email to parking@ctra.org.
A Bit of HistoryTo get to this point, the Parking Issues Task Force worked hard to find a solution to the increasing non-resident parking on affected College Terrace neighborhood streets. The task force created a summary information packet to share the results of its research and survey. With that in hand, task force members met with City Council members to enlist their support to study this important issue. They also met with appropriate City staff members as the proposed program would need full City Council approval to begin investigation and possible develop of a program in College Terrace.Be sure to click on the links below for a peek at our executive summary package!
