BOARD PRIORITIES/DISCUSSION ITEMS
Traffic Calming Trial Kathy reported that the traffic calming trial has been delayed due to staff changes in the Engineering department. It will probably not begin until late January or February, depending on the weather. Many factors influence the exact location of the speed tables, such as the location of curb cuts and storm drains. The board recommends that the City hold outreach meetings with abutting residents prior to installing the traffic calming measures (speed tables or traffic circles) regarding the location and timetables for installation. The City appears to be backing down on exploring landscaping options for the traffic circles. Kathy, Paula, John Mark and Susan Rosenberg will meet and discuss possible landscape options.
2005-2006 Board Priorities
OFFICERS' REPORTS
President:
Upcoming City Council Elections Filing deadline is in August. Our neighborhood is not traditionally a focus for campaigning, as fewer people vote here. The ice cream social at the College Terrace Library last year was well received by both candidates and residents. If we hold one this year, it should be as early in October as possible to avoid conflicts with Stanford Football games.
Issues and Opportunities The board reviewed the notes from last months brainstorming session. A subcommitte of board members will meet to write up a draft of our 2005-6 Issues and Opportunities statement.
Vice President:
The Library Task force update will be presented in the next newsletter.
Communications Director:
Newsletter There will be a July newsletter, and then one prior to the Labor Day weekend picnic. Kathy and John Mark will write regarding traffic calming, Alexandra regarding the purpose of the CTRA (Paula will review), Larry regarding the finances, Paula regarding the library survey, and interviews with long time residents. September will highlight local businesses.
The board needs a CTRA news list manager; Hollis agreed to fill this role.
Treasurer:
Donations in the second quarter (April-June 2005) were $560; our expenses were $534.
Govt. Observers
Mayfield Developmement Agreement The 30-day deadline for appeals has past; work is expected to begin on the soccer fields early September.
ZOU for Research Park The final reading of the ordinance by the City Council is scheduled for July 18th.
National Night Out This event is sponsered by the police and City Council. We will have events in three of our neighborhood parks (all except Mayfield park near the library).
NEXT MEETING: The next board meeting is scheduled for Friday, September 2 from 3-4:45 at Kathys house.
