OFFICERS' REPORTS
President/Vice President:
Paula reported that at least half of the City Council candidates will be attending this years Issues and Ice Cream event at Mayfield Park on Saturday, October 15th, between 2 and 4 p.m. Other opportunities for interacting with will be individual candidate coffees, such as the one Larry Klein is hosting at Printers Cafe.
CTRA will be sponsoring an informal Civic Affairs Salon on Tuesday evening, September 20, at 7 p.m. If this one is successful, similar discussion groups will be scheduled every few months. Paula suggested that there be an outside moderator at the event. Kathy and John Mark will be in charge of this project.
A draft revised Issues and Opportunities paper was emailed to all board members this past week. Kathy requested that comments on the draft be turned into her as soon as possible. A subcommittee of interested board members will convene to finalize the draft. Erika suggested that the paper also include a progress report on past issues.
Communications Director:
Betsy reported that he next issue of the newsletter will continue the History of College Terrace column, give an update on the promised installation traffic calming measures as well as an update on the JJ&F remodeling plans, publicize the Ice Cream Social, and include photos of the Labor Day picnic. We will request that the City print a separate info sheet on the timeline for installation of the traffic calming measures, that can be distributed at the same time as our newsletter.
Govt. Observers
Erika attended the last Planning Commission meeting (of which Paula is the newest member) and will keep us informed of important dates regarding JJ&F or the Stanford Research Park.
John Mark and former board member Carrie Epstein are working with the City on implementation of the traffic calming project, which as been delayed due to City staff changes. Kathy reported that the consulting engineer who developed the plan will be brought back to oversee its implementation.
Alexandra has been in contact with Stanford regarding the rerouting of the Marguerite onto Oberlin and/or Escondido Road and Stanford Avenue. A meeting will be held on September 15th at 7 p.m. at a location to be determined by Stanford to discuss the route with affected neighbors. Erika will also work with this project.
Alexandra will also be holding a meeting on September 19th to discuss the possibility of residential parking permits for those affected by spill over parking from Stanford and the California Avenue business district. Erika will also work with this project.
Social
Sheila discussed plans for the Labor Day picnic and requested volunteers for cleanup. Some fliers were not delivered- possibly a problem with new routes and new volunteers. A PANDA representative will be present to recruit volunteers for the September 20-22 PANDA training. Paula will investigate the possibility of purchasing permanent portable lawn signs for picnic and meeting publicity (such as those used by real estate agents), instead of using flyers on poles.
