BOARD PRIORITIES
Traffic calming:
The board discussed how staff changes in the City of Palo Alto Transportation Department have delayed implementation of the College Terrace traffic calming project. It was agreed that an official letter was needed from the Planning Department outlining a new timetable and guaranteeing that the $25,000 additonal cost for hiring an outside engineer would not come from the money earmarked for this project.
Issues and Opportunities:
Kathy requested that final comments on the draft Issues and Opportunities document be relayed to her as soon as possible. The final document will be distributed to City Council Candidates prior to the Ice Cream Social and will also be distributed with the newsletter. The board discussed the relative priority of the various items on the Issues and Opportunities document, to be reflected in the final draft.
OFFICERS REPORTS
Social Director:
Ice Cream Social: Scheduled for Saturday, October 15th between 2 and 4 p.m. Paula reported that all School Board candidates and most City Council Candidates have agreed to attend. Help is needed to pick up and set up tables and to scoop ice cream. Nicole will ask Sheila to obtain the ice cream from Baskin Robbins, for free if possible.
President:
Civic Affairs Salon: Kathy and John Mark reported that attendance at the Civic Affairs Salon exceeded expectations, with nineteen community members attending, engaging in serious and in-depth discussion. Future events will be planned.
North Candidate forum: The general consensus from Board members attending was that this forum, focused on issues of interest to neighbroods north of Embarcadero, included too many candidates and that the question submitted by our neighborhood was misinterperted by the moderator. Followup with candidates on issues of importance to us and other neighborhoods west of Alma will be helpful.
PAN Forum of Housing: This forum was moderated by City Council member and former Judge Cordell and an interesting dialogue developed.
Communications Director: The newsletter will be printed this Friday and distributed over the weekend. Deadline is Wednesday for articles.
Government Observers:
Stanford Shuttle issue: A meeting called by Stanford University Community Relations staff will be held on Stanford campus to hear concerns of Stanford Avenue residents and to discuss options.
Parking permit task force: A working group has been formed. Alexandra will submit article to be included in newsletter.
Zoning Ordinance Update: The ZOU for the Research Park goes to City Council on October 11th. John Mark and Kathy will monitor recommendations in staff report, inform CTRA Board of any changes since May, and submit comments.
Next CTRA Board Meeting: Monday, November 7th at 7:30 p.m. at Kathys house.
